we need to send sms in various indian languages, if there is a unicode support for Frontlinesms let us know.
or can we enable front line in a indian language?
As long as the mobile phone and computer you are using with FrontlineSMS supports the language, and as long as the receiving mobile phones support the language, then FrontlineSMS should work. We added Unicode support to the software a few weeks ago.
Thanks for the support, Banks.
I got frontlinesms 1.5.8, from my collegue Vishnu.
But i dont see the unicode support in there.
When i a copy a text in Hindi(Indian Language), it is shown as just squares in the send console.
And i even changed the keyboard input to Hindi, but still its typing in English.
Am i missing any extra step for Unicode for FrontlineSMS.
What happens when you receive a Hindi message with FrontlineSMS? Can it be displayed then? Also, do non-Latin translations of the FrontlineSMS interface work on your FrontlineSMS (e.g. Arabic or Russian)? You can check this in the menu Settings > Language > Русский.
Here's a picture of FrontlineSMS with Hindi - it works on my Windows machine. Are you using FrontlineSMS on linux? It may be a problem with the Linux version, or specifically with your install. Can anyone else confirm this?
Hi,
Ya, im trying Frontline in Ubuntu 8.10
I am changed to Русский as you said.
All the translation is happening but i still have it type in English only.
Check out the screenshot
Btw, the screenshot you gave for hindi, is it in windows?
Sakthivel
Yes, the screenshot I added is from Windows. I guess I will need to have a go on Ubuntu when I get a chance, and see if I get the same problem. Hopefully I can get this done today, but if I don't get back to you in the next 24 hours, give me a shout!
If you go to the Help menu, make a note of the location of the configuration files. If you then open that folder in Windows Explorer and look in the "Languages" folder, make a copy of the English file and then open the copy in Notebook. If you then edit the word after the "=" sign, leaving any trailing dots or characters in place, by putting in the Hindi equivalent. If your PC supports Hindi it will display.
Once this file is ready, Alex can let you know how FrontlineSMS needs to pick it up.
changed the file with language = Hindi in notepad and its reflected in the language settings as Hindi but i cant type in Hindi from the machine to send the message..pls let me know how should i proceed further
I'm assuming here that you're going to have to have a Hindi keyboard, or support for Hindi on your computer, to be able to type Hindi characters. Alex can confirm this. But if you want to test the sending of Hindi messages, cut and paste something from a Google search, or a web page, in Hindi - this is what I did to test Arabic.

P.S. Would you mind attaching your translation file to the forum here so we can include it in the next FrontlineSMS release? We'll credit you on the website for your help. Thanks
