FrontlineSMS

FrontlineSMS allows you to text message with large groups of people anywhere there is a mobile signal.

Hi ,

Well in Pakistan ,mobile phones being used by the advocates and social workers are of following manufacturer, Nokia is at number 1st , Sony Ericsson is at No 2 while Sam-sung is at Number 3.

This is based upon the sampling that i did to have a concrete analysis by asking some colleagues and friends in other organizations.

Almost 95% of these mobile sets can be connected with computer or any other communication devise by using Bluethooth( very common) and Data Cables( normally come with the set).

Regards

Hi Muhammad,

thanks for your response - it's good to know, but we need to know the actual model numbers of the phones that you are referring to as being available and in use, so that we can get the exact same ones and test them here?

You can find them written underneath the battery, if the model number is not written on the outside. Typical model numbers are like "Nokia 1100" or "Samsung SGH940" or similar...

It would also be great if you could put your reply in this discussion ( http://frontlinesms.ning.com/forum/topic/show?id=2052630:Topic:13021 ), so that our developers can put all of this together!
OK,

I will ,Post the model numbers in a day or so, as i will have to consult my colleagues for that.

One more thing ? i have downloaded frontlineSMS, and tried to connect via bluetooth but it failed.

Is there any way that we can send and recieve messages via bluetooth.
yes, bluetooth works, but you have to make the bluetooth connection using windows or linux, ensure that there is a virtual COM port active, which may require you to browse the available services offered by the phone in the bluetooth window on your computer, and click on the COM port, and make that connection automatic in the future.

Once the bluetooth device has exposed a virtual COM port on your computer, FrontlineSMS should be able to autodetect the phone.
Thanks, Indeed .

As i consulted my friends and colleagues around ; following are the models those are being used normally.

Nokia:
1100 , 1110 , 1200 , N95, N73, 3720 Classic , 7610 , 7210, E52, 6730 , 6216 Classic

SonyErricson:
K700, K700i , k800, k800i, k810, k850, W800i, w900 Music Eidition ,

Samsung:

Here are some chinese phones available which are copy of the origional manfacturers. They are not so good in quality but serve the purpose as these are very cheap , up to 70 % of the price of the genuine ones.
