HELP! NOKIA 5130 Detected but fails to Connect.

Hello, i have been trying to configure my Nokia 5130 Xpress Music with Frontline SMS, it detects the Make&Model, Mobile Number and Serial but it fails to Connect,

I first though it was the operators fault so i tried using SIM from all the Operators found in my country (Tanzania) but without a luck.

I made sure no other software is using the phone(as a modem too).

i have also Submitted Error Report, i hope it will be of use, i really need to solve this, before the end of this week.

Hi Kennedy

Thanks for your message. I've checked online and the 5130 is Symbian-based, and FrontlineSMS doesn't support Symbian phones right now (we hope the release this month will). This is mentioned in the "Troubleshooting" section of the Help files. You'll need to find a non-Symbian device - a GSM modem is best. Check the supported devices list on the website and maybe you can find one in a second-hand market somewhere. We're looking to expand this list too in the coming weeks, since many of these phones are getting harder to find.

Best of luck.

Hi Ken,

I'm having the very same issue but am using the Nokia 5310 XpressMusic phone. The OS in use appears to be "Nokia OS" according to device specs. Attached is a snippet of the log file that shows what's going on when the phone is identified and a connection is attempted.

P.S. I saw that the phone Kennedy was trying to use is supported by the Form client -- I assumed that if a phone can run FrontlineForms, then it can connect to FrontlineSMS? Is this assumption incorrect?

Thanks,
Adjoa

Hi Adjoa

I've responded to your other post about this.

Your assumption is incorrect. Forms is totally separate from the device you connect to your computer, so you'll need to find a different device. We'd recommend a GSM modem if you think you're going to use FrontlineSMS much - several are listed on the website here (see my other answer).

hello Adjoa,

well i had to change from the Nokia 5310 Xpress Music to nokia 6230i which works excellent, i have also used Huawei GSM modem it also works well,
other Symbian based phones including the Nokia 5310 and N-Series do not work, as they are detected but fails to connect, anyway, i have been told that they will update it (the Frontline SMS) to support them too. here is the list of some of the supported phones so far:\

Thank you both Ken and Kennedy =)

I'm checking out the the "requirements" page now to find a GSM modem phone. Also, thanks for clearing me up on what the requirements distinction is for FrontlineForms and FrontlineSMS.
