FrontlineSMS allows you to text message with large groups of people anywhere there is a mobile signal.
I am very happy to be joining the FrontlineSMS community. We are just beginning to try FrontlineSMS in our project on dengue prevention in Rio de Janeiro. We need to auto forward sms messages to an email account. I understand that v01 has this feature but not v02. In a December 2012 reply that I found on the community forum, Laura Walker Hudson mentions that v02 will be getting the auto forward feature soon. Any idea when? Is there a "work-around" in v02 to do this now? We really need that feature and would like to use v02 rather than v01.
One reason for using v02 is that it seems to be much harder to find a GSM modem that is compatible with v01. The modem we bought (a current Huawei E series) works with v02 but not v01. So I ordered an unlocked Huawei E1752 that I found on eBay and that is supposed to be compatible with v01. But it's shipping from China and has not yet arrived. Does anyone know of another source for a GSM modem that's compatible with v01, any in the U.S.?
Many thanks for your help!

Many thanks for your reply. V2.2 looks greats, with many useful new features. We need auto-forward to email, which v1 supports. It seems that v2.2 only supports auto-forward to SMS. That doesn't help us. Does the Frontline team plan to implement auto-forward to email in v2? How difficult would it be for us to implement it?
Best,
James

We hadn't implemented this, as we'd had few requests for it from users. However, we've had quite a few in a short period so will review this.
Do you have access to developers? If so you might be able to do this yourself. We love it when people do that and release it back to the community!

Many thanks for your reply. We finally got a GSM modem that works with v01 on a PC and ran an initial test of the communication system we want to implement in Brazil for our dengue project. I'm happy to say that it worked -- at least in Berkeley. And all suggests that it will work in Rio. As we plan to test it there next month, I don't have any developers I can spare in the run-up to the field test to implement auto-forward to email in v02. We must get into the field in February and thus we will do so with v01. I would like to stress that auto-forward to email is an important feature in FrontlineSMS for a host of reasons. If you have the resources to implement it soon, that would be a great contribution. Let's keep talking about this, and I'll also update the Frontline community about the Rio field test.
