I'm not sure this is possible, but I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to automatically disable keywords after they are used to send a certain number of messages (instead of after a certain date). I want to give different groups access to a FrontlineSMS system via keywords, but don't want them to be able to use more than a certain amount of credit each, so I thought that disabling their keyword when the exceeded their credit use could be a way to do this.

Nice idea! But sadly right now - as you note - FrontlineSMS can only disable a keyword once it's activation date has passed. I can certainly push the idea to our developer team (who may be able to consider it for future releases) but that wouldn't happen for a while. Unfortunately I can't think of anything else you could try here.
