FrontlineSMS

FrontlineSMS allows you to text message with large groups of people anywhere there is a mobile signal.

I am trying to work work with a Huawei and FrontlineSMS Ver 1.6. I'm using Ver 1.6 because I am going to set-up and Ushahidi integration.

  • I have the modem connected (by USB) to a Macbook running OS 10.8.2.
  • Frontline does not find the modem.
  • I switched to FrontlineSMS Version 2.0 to see if there was any difference.
  • Ver 2.0 found the modem and it is listed as a connection on the Settings/Phone & connections page. Status is showing "Not connected"
  • When try the "Create route" command the connection fails.
  • The following error message appears in the log on the system page - "Error creating routes to fconnection with name Auto-configured huawei E587 on port /dev/cu.HUAWEIMobile-Pcui"
  • I have tried shutting down the modem control panel before starting FrontlineSMS and also leaving it running.
  • I have tried system re-starts.
  • The modem generally works fine and connects correctly for both WiFi and Internet.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

John

Hi,

Are you using the latest version of frontlinesms?. Please ensure that you are using the most recent version of frontlinesms i.e 2.1.3. Version 2.1.3 does not have support for ushahidi but we will soon release a version that has that feature. So if you are still interested in using ushahidi with frontlinesms we recommend using version  1.6.16.3.

The port /dev/cu.HUAWEIMobile-Pcui sometimes works but a we recommend changing the port to /dev/cu.HUAWEIMobile-Modem. Save the connection and try connecting to the modem. Try doing this on version 1.6 and also version 2.1.3.

We hope to hear from you soon.

Thank you.

Hi John,

Thank you for your patience. So far we haven't been able to find the model of

you modem to use for testing. We kindly ask you to use another modem with

FrontlineSMS

Regards,

Mark

Hi John,

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately we haven't tested the modem model you are using

with FrontlineSMS; ideally new models should work. We will test the software with your model

then get back to you as soon as possible.

Best regards,

Mark
