Hi All,

I've just installed the Mac version successfully, and everything is working fine,

except I am struggling with the email settings:

There is a field for SMTP server, port, email and password, but no username...

I tried putting my username into the email field (unlike other email servers my username and email address are not identical), but to no avail...

Am I just being dumb here?

Sorry if this has already been covered, but I could only find instructions on how to set up gmail when searching the forum...

Hi Axel,

Thanks for getting in touch about this, and sorry to hear you are having problems with your email set-up. I'm afraid the way the system is set up assumes that your username and email address are the same. Sorry if that causes any inconvenience. Is there another email address you are able to test and use FrontlineSMS with?

thanks for clarifying this.

I have found a workaround for our use case which seems to work well.

Could an extra field for smtp username be added as a (low priority) feature request for a future version though, to make the email functionality more universally usable?

I assume ours isn't the only mailserver out there that has usernames which aren't identical to the email address...

Btw, is the best place to submit bug reports and/or feature requests here in the forum, on GitHub/issues, or through the mailing list?

I am having the same problem. Did you ever get this figured out? I was trying to use gmail and/or the email system at our university (both with no success). Gmail connects but the message still fails.

Account server: smtp.gmail.com

Account server port: 587

Account e-mail: username@gmail.com

Account Password: **** (no SSL)

(though google says I need to use SSL FLSMS doesn't connect at all if I use SSL)

I can't get the university email system to connect at all.

have you resolved this issue? What exactly was your workaround?

I was trying to do it through google as well. I have gotten it to connect to both the google server as well as the server at Columbia, but it still fails to send.

When I use the google it sometimes even says that it is re-trying, but still fails.

I have tried this and it works with my gmail account and domain accounts that use gmail as a service. I see that you are also using a gmail account. Kindly try this settings

Account Sever: smtp.gmail.com

Account Server port: 25

Account Email: youemail@gmail.com

Accountpassword : yourpassword

Do not use SSL

Thank you for sharing these settings. It connected to the server fine. No error, but same as with the other two that i have setup, the message fails. :( I am at a loss. I am currently using frontlineSMS 1.6.16.3 on a mac OSX version 10.6.8 snow leopard. I am trying it from my home network which has no firewalls. If you or anyone can think of anything else that may be going on please let me know.

maybe im testing it wrong? I am setting one of the key words to send an email using the information you provided and sending it to my columbia and google email accounts.

Line for line exactly as you set it up. It connect without error, but when I tried to send and email message to myself it failed.

Please upload the logs. You can get the logs by clicking the Submit Error Report option under the help menu item. Frontlinesms will try and email the logs to us, but it should fail because email does not work for you.FrontlineSMS will ask you specify the location where you will save the logs.You can cancel that dialog window.

The logs should be in the FrontlineSMS configuration directory.You can get the configuration directory by clicking on the Configuration Directory option under the help menu item.

Once you get the logs, just upload them here on ning. From there I can tell where the problem might lie.

This is the log to an attempt I did yesterday. Again, I was able to connect, but there was still a fail.
