FrontlineSMS let users send, receive and manage SMS over a mobile network.

I am getting organized to use Frontline SMS and bought a Dekart SIM card reader to use for my computer that is already connected to the internet by a modem. The program sees the device but it does not connect. Do I need anything else that a wireless connection and a SIM card reader to start sending messages?

Thank you for your help,

Hi Isabelle

From what I can gather, the Dekart device you're using is not a GSM modem, but a device which simply allows you to read and backup contacts and messages from a SIM card. If you're not sure what a GSM modem is, check the "Requirements" page on the FrontlineSMS website or search for it on the Internet.

FrontlineSMS only needs a GSM modem and active SIM card to work.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the answer, I get it now. Although I am frantically looking over the net to see where to buy said GSM modems and can't seem to find a place. BestBuy, Radio Shack... they don't carry it. Any thoughts? I am located in Belize in Central America, let me know if you know of a place I should look into in Central or North America.

Hi Isabelle

You should be able to buy GSM modems from mobile phone/cell phone shops, else places like eBay or the mobile phone operators websites themselves. You might also find them for sale in computer shops. If you search for or ask for the actual name of one of the modems listed in "Requirements" you should have more luck. Just make sure that anything you buy online is "unlocked" so that you'll be able to use it with a SIM card from one of your local Belize networks.

There are a few phones also listed here, so if you really have trouble finding a modem you could always try a phone (although these are not recommended).

Unfortunately we cannot help with finding devices, so I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

P.S. If you want a bit more information about how FrontlineSMS works, and GSM modems, watch the introductory video here:
