I send about 250 short messages in about 25 to 30 minutes from Kenya to six countries. I use Airtel Sim Card and blue tooth connection and have not experienced delays. I dont know what Joseph is using but maybe he can try this.

Hi Florence,

Thank you for the welcoming message.I am really thrilled about the prospects of learning more about the use of sms on commodity marketing.Middlemen are fleecing rural farmers because they dont know the latest prices in urban markets.

Hi Joseph

If you have internet access where you use FrontlineSMS then you can send messages through online SMS providers - we support IntelliSMS and Clickatell at the moment. You can read all about these in the "Help" files (check out the "Settings" section).

I am current using Frontline SMS but it takes almost a day to send one sms to about 1,000 farmers. Can it be faster in sending messages?

Hi Colin,

Thanks for sharing more information about PFP. I have added you to the FrontlineSMS Twitter account list of FrontlineSMS users, and look forward to hearing how your work progresses! Let us know how you get on with exploring use of SMS for farming communities in Malawi, and please feel free to ask if you have any questions on using FrontlineSMS.

All the Best,

Hello Agriculture Group Members

Been a while as I have been busy developing projects for PFP. I'll be in Malawi making a documentary with Total Landcare about sustainable farming, "new" techniques, reforestation and the effects of climate change. I also want to explore the use of SMS in the farming community there. If you want to follow us on Twitter it @PFPMalawi.

Also if you have Malawi based projects which are using SMS successfully please get in touch. To find out more about us here is our recent promo film which gives you an idea of our work. Many many thanks. Colin

Check out this upcoming AgriKnowledge Share Fair event, which will be exploring how mobile technology and / or social media can be used in the agriculture sector to improve food security and nutrition:

They have a call out for proposals from potential speakers, so perhaps some FrontlineSMS users would like to contribute!
