Hello all,

I'm working from Switzerland on an ICT4D project focusing on improving the livelihoods of small and marginal farmers in India.

We're planning to use frontline SMSs as the backend for a mobile phone based interactive information system. You can find more about our project here: http://wiki.epfl.ch/csn2/description

I'd be interested in knowing more about Isaac's and Erica's projects and plans.

Hi all, I'd love to use Frontline SMS with a group of small-scale farmers I am working with in Paraguay to help them aggregate their produce through text messages and an aggregator tool. Let me know who I can talk to at Frontline to develop a prototype.

I successfully defended my oral proposal for a Ph.d. programme at the University of Nairobi. My study will be on ICT mediated agricultural extension service in Africa: A study of Irish potatoes farming in Kenya.

Basically the study will focus on how mobile phone and internet based information platform can be used to improve the agricultural extension services. I am requesting for case studies and testimonies of the group members who have carried or are carrying a similar study to give their insights.

Just to tell you that I updated a comprehensive article that I wrote in Spanish which talks about mobile telephony, the global food crisis, what makes mobile phone technology so special, experiences in Africa, Asia and America, and finally my proposal in more detail. Please check it out. Comments and suggestions are welcome.

Thank you

I am working on my Ph.D proposal on Efficacy of internet-mobile phone mediated agricultural extension service. The study will seek to know the condition under which internet-mobile phone mediated agricultural service can be applied and how best this technology can be used more effective in agricultural extension. I need some information on the implementation of this research.

FrontlineSMS is just too good, I have used it to send and distribute short messages to fellow Agric workers in one group in the field at a cost of just SMS.

Benjamin, very interesting, I've been following FarmRadio on Twitter (@vethno). What areas are you focusing on within the 'food security' arena? I'd be interested to hear more specifics.

Farmradio International implementing African Farm Radio Research Initiative an action research project using participatory radio campaign to improve food security in Five african countries. In this project we developed a six month radio campign with and for farmers and the FrontlineSMS is used to alert the listening group to assemble for the program. We have also used the sms to give short massages to farmers.
