Hello All,

I work for The Department for International Development (DFID) and I am also  a postgraduate student at Birkbeck, University of London, where I am completing a MSc. in International Business and Development.  I am currently writing my dissertation on the socio-economic impact of mobile phones on smallholder farmers.
I am seeking to discover how mobile technology such as SMS, helplines, information services and the Internet have made a difference in the following areas:
- Increasing access to financial services (mobile banking)
- Supplying agricultural information
- Increasing data visibility for supply chain efficiency
- Improving access to markets
To this end I have completed the following survey which I would like to invite you to complete by 19 Sept and share as widely as possible:
-Survey for providers of mobile services in agriculture: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/NHMZTT5
-Survey for users of mobile services in Agriculture in developing countries: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/NXFXMYJ

I would be very grateful for your response,
Best regards
Marsha

Hi, everybody,

Last month I wrote about the problem of getting a mobile phone compatible with frontline sms in my country (Cote d'Ivoire) and you adviced me to use to use Nokia C1-01 or for modems you can use Huawei e173.

I've tried to use Nokia C1-01 as you ask me, the problem is frontline can't get connected with the phone after detection. (see the picture below)

Can you give me some options to solve this problem?

what means n/a or N/A?

Why COM 7 always stays on "devices searching"

Thanks

Hi Ntamilyango,

You can use the external command function with keywords, so that whenever the keyword is received an external command is executed.

External commands can be set up using python, php, javascript or other programming languages.  For my project I used nodejs (event driven i/o  library running on google's v8 javascript engine) to run external commands, and return information to FrontlineSMS.  The development blog for the project is located at http://agnetpro.wordpress.com

Hope this helps.

So far so good...all the participants can not not only use FrontlineSMS software but can also create crowdmap platform for a wider community viewing. They have managed to do this so fast....so so fast and am amazed ! They are now creating a common platform which they are linking with the Frontline and all of you can check it out: https://ictwestern.crowdmap.com

The have found it more fun and they are taking the process forward. I feel more motivated today than yesterday. I hope they use this system for the improvement of income  of the small scale farmers in Western Parts of Kenya, Cheptais District. I also wish to thank ACK Western Region Community Services for helping the peasant farmers through. Congratulation to you: Ben Yaite, Nancy, Victor (Papa), Gerry Boiyo, Oscar Andrew, Rebecca, Philip Mandu, Jane Chematia, and Peter Okwako. You have graduated with Phds....now go and serve the world. Serve well
