MediaManch (www.mediamanch.net) is a social networking platform cum online community for journalists of Nepal. It aims to improve professionalism in Nepali media through open discussion among Nepali media workers about professionalism, security and freedom. It also aims to empower Nepali journalists to support participatory constitution building in Nepal.
After signing up by filling a few information, journalists can be the member of this platform and immediately start posting contents (blogs, discussions, status, pictures, audio and videos). They can participate by promoting others' posts, commenting on them and sharing through facebook, twitter and google+. Among many other innovative features of this platform, remarkable is the integration with crowdmap, a tool that helps to crowdsource information and visualize it on a map and timeline. With this integration, all incidents of attacks on journalists can be seen on the map of Nepal.
This initiative was started in July 2011 through the funding from United States, Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor. Currently, this has been supported by a grant from Government of Japan and UNESCO through UNDP.
