Ofcom are accepting funding applications in 2012/13 will open on 9 April 2012 and close at 5pm on 11 May 2012. The Community Radio Fund Panel will meet to consider applications on 25 June 2012.

Section 359 of the UK Communications Act 2003 makes it possible for a fund for UK community radio operators to be set up, and for Ofcom to administer it and “make such grants as they consider appropriate” to community radio licensees.

The UK Government (specifically, the Department for Culture, Media & Sport) is providing some financial support to be distributed to community radio stations through such a fund. Only holders of a community radio licence can seek financial support from this Fund.

Ofcom has established the Community Radio Fund Panel to meet as required to examine applications and make awards from the Fund.

The Panel is independent of the Ofcom Radio Licensing Committee (RLC) which awards community radio licences.

Grants can only be made to community radio licensees who are broadcasting under a community radio licence (and not an RSL, for example).

Hi Ousseini, 

Great news about the modem - connect it to your computer then close the driver (software which pops up). Then open FrontlineSMS (download from here http://www.frontlinesms.com/the-software/download/) Check the connection in Phones tab by clicking auto detect phones. If it works the connection will appear under working devices. Let me know how you get on! Amy

Hi Darlington, Great to hear about your work in Zambia about disseminating agricultural information. Are you already using FrontlineSMS or what are your plans to use it? How many participants do you plan to engage? Are you using other platforms like the radio? Thanks, Amy \o/

Hello everyone, I hope you are all doing well at the start of 2012 and we shall work together for the betterment of our communities by giving them the much needed information that will enable them make informed decisions. I work for National Agricultural Information Services whose mandate is to disseminate agricultural information to the farming community in Zambia.

Hie Everyone. I am pleased to join you in this exciting networking site in the media family.My main bias is in community and grass roots media. I am in Plumtree which is a small border town in Zimbabwe and am currently working towards establishing a community radio called Getjenge FM to service a predominantly rural community.In Zimbabwe, media reform especially in the broadcast fraternity is yet to happen hence our desire to explore other creative avenues of disseminating news  and information. I count on the experiences and ideas of members on various options that one can explore to disseminate news and information. I look foward to your views and ideas.

I do know of some projects using FrontlineSMS in Malawi. You should find Joseph Mazizi from Radio Mudzi Wathu on this forum! Tiowana, pitani bwino! Amy
