If you'd rather not share this information openly please email info@frontlinesms.com before joining): I became interested in FLSMS after hearing about it on Twitter and getting involved with a small, local community group wanting to use SMS to reach women and children trapped in domestic violence situations.

Tell us about you. (Please also add an image to your profile): I'm a 34 year old entrepreneur and new social activist. I own a small open source electronic medical records company focused on providing high quality software to the small to mid-sized medical community in the United States and, especially, abroad.

I'm also heavily involved with assisting project, organizations, and individuals in deploying services around FrontlineSMS and have worked with a variety of people around the world and about 15 different projects all based on SMS and FrontlineSMS.

I live in a small town in Oklahoma with my two dogs, a bird, and a Betta fish with a huge attitude that I'm convinced will one day break free of his tank and launch an evil plan to attain world dominance.

Update on a public release of the FamilyFIRST domestic violence sytem

About a year ago, I developed a system around FrontlineSMS called FamilyFIRST. FamilyFIRST was developed to allow domestic violence agencies to provide better services to victims by allowing them to report incidents silently via a simple SMS message. It also allowed victims in crisis to immediately summon the police or make contact with a crisis intervention worker without the need to actually make a phone call.

Update on using FrontlineSMS to help victims of domestic violence

In late May of this year, I assisted a local crisis center in deploying a solution we've now dubbed "FamilyFIRST". FamilyFIRST is an SMS based system that allows victims of domestic violence to reach out to police, crisis counselors, and to document abuse incidents all via simple SMS messaging.
