Hi Deep

Thanks for the comment, and sorry about the problems. The developer is away at the moment and we're releasing a new version of the software in a couple of months or so. Right now, all I can suggest is you try and see if there is any way you can get hold of an XP system. Running Vista on a Mac complicates things, and having a Mac (and the lack of drivers for most phones) is also a big issue.

Let me see what I can do, but your configuration is about as tricky as they get, and you've already shown that it all works fine on another machine.

Thanks Jon.

This is helpful. I can confirm the model and buy one for our project. Also, I am trying to add some more additional features for FSMS. Who do you think I need to look for for the same if I we should be able to use both external commands options and our own database MySQL.

Can you let me know?

Thanks,

Deep.

Hi Deep,

I don't know if you can use both. You should be able to. If you use the Motorola l6i just know you won't be able to use FrontlineForms. Good luck.

Hi,

I don't see too many advantages to using two different SIM cards. It might be a little bit faster, but not too much. The downside will be an increase in cost. You'll have to buy two modems (about $250 for us per modem) and you'll have to buy two SIM cards with two different plans which are also expensive.

As for the Desphande Foundation, they were very supportive of our software and liked the work we completed in India. I would suggest always approaching them with innovative ideas in any area. Good luck.

Hi Deep,

We used a wavecom GSM modem. I'm not sure which model, but the one we were given seemed to be the only model anyone had ever heard of.

The wavecom worked on both Windows XP and Windows Vista. We didn't try it on a Mac.

I don't know about keywords because we never had to use too many. I'm not sure how you would import keywords. You may want to direct those questions to Ken Banks or Alex Anderson. They work for F SMS and are also on this community.

I hope that was helpful. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks.

Hi Deep,

I did not require drivers, although I did have to play with it a bit and be persistent (for instance, jiggling the USB cord and also opening up Frontline first and then making the connection and vise-versa). I also have a recent Mac--bought it no more than 6 months ago--so if yours is a little older, perhaps it doesn't have all the same drivers. I tried using the bluetooth connection, but that was unsuccessful.

I'm sorry you're having so many problems; I hope it doesn't hold things up too much. Good luck. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Best Wishes,
Daniel

Hey Deep,

It does work on a Mac--that's what I use (the most recent MacBook). You have to plug it in before you open frontline (or vise-versa), but it will work. It's a little sluggish, but I think that's more of the provider's fault. I was using Airtel. Hope that helps!

Best,
Daniel

Hi Deep,

Here is my response to your question about which phone to use in India:

So I ended up using a Motorola L6i (cost about 4,000 Rs) while I was in India, and it worked fine until it fell out of my pocket on the bus, and I never saw it again! I didn't have enough money to replace the phone, so I ended up using a web-based SMS service called SMSCountry. This has worked very well for me--it is an Indian website that I can use in the USA. The costs are very minimal: 0.43 Rs per SMS to an Indian number. There are a few glitches, but Pooja from support is very quick to respond to my emails.

I hope your project is successful!

Best Wishes,
Daniel
