Frontline SMS intervention for malaria education program

Mine is a most basic question - please bear with me. I am working on a proposal for an sms-based malaria education intervention program in the coastal region of Kenya. I would really appreciate hearing from those working on similar projects. Frontline SMS seems great for our ideas which include: - Using text messaging to remind mothers to attend antenatal visits; the use of insecticide-treated nets; appropriate treatment therapies; anti-malarial prophylaxis in pregnancy and prompt fever…See More

We are seeking to deploying mobile technology for malaria prevention in Kenya. We are primarily interested in the use of sms technology for education and awareness but depending on the partners we can find, we could expand the scope of our program to optimize the potential of sms technology in other areas. Our ideas include:

- Using text messaging to promote safe malaria practices in the public. A key target population is families with young children as the highest risk population is expectant mothers and children under 5. We are thinking of the US text4baby model where the mothers sign up to receive text reminders promoting the use of insecticide-treated nets; appropriate treatment therapies; anti-malarial prophylaxis in pregnancy and prompt fever treatment in children.
- Using OpenMRS to track patient records of pregnant parents to ensure that they get antimalaria shots during their antenatal visits; as well as cases of children with fever [and possibly malaria]
-Using SMS to build a network of mobile community health workers
Our ideal project would look like the MOTECH initiative: http://mobileactive.org/motech-new-approach-health-care

We are very keen on any ideas
