Having started Edunet Namibia back in June, I am actively seeking a way to incorporate the use of cellphones in education, and as such trawled the web for a solution. The decisive hint came from the Ushahidi project - and I immediately tried out the Linux beta on my laptop still last night.

I am owner of Namibtec, an IT consulting and training company in Walvis Bay, Namibia, that specialises on Linux (primarily Ubuntu) and open source software. One of my projects is EduNet Namibia, which strives to bring ICTs to all schools in Namibia through the use of used computers and Edubuntu plus open educational resources (OERs) to create an environment that can not only be used to teach computer literacy but also be embedded in normal classroom usage. Primary ICT tool in Namibia is the cellphone - leveraging its capacities thus is extremely important to us, and FrontlineSMS and its sub-projects seem to be a mighty good starting point.
