- I am hoping to use FrontlineSMS to connect with women accessing medical abortion through community pharmacies in Mexico with accuate information on dosage, contraindications, and route of administration.
I am hoping to use SMS to identify and establish connections with women seeking clandestine abortions through community pharmacies in Mexico. The goal of the project is both to gather data from women who choose to obtain medical abortion drugs for induced abortion to best understand their experience outside of the health system and to provide women with correct, timely information on medical abortion regimens, contraindications, and complications. A number of mystery client studies have indicated that women purchasing drugs for medical abortion at community pharmacies are not provided with adequate information on dosing, contraindications, or possible complications. The best way to provide women accessing medical abortion at community pharmacies with appropriate, timely information is to communicate directly with women. Given the stigmatized nature of pharmacy based access to medical abortion drugs, I am working with Ipas, an international NGO that works on women's reproductive rights to use Frontline SMS to allow women accessing medical abortions through community phramacies to self-identify by texting the project to receive information on medical abortion.
