As part of the campagin to combat violence against women using ICTs, Isis-WICCE with the support from Association for Progressive Communication(APC) conducted a training on VAW and ICT in November 2010 for grassroots women leaders and women living with HIV/AIDS. The purpose of the training was to equip women with ICT skills and to enable them create platforms and opportunities for women to engage with ICT to adress violence against women… Continue

I am writing you from the Northern Part of Italy, where I am working at a NGO, which also tries to get use of mobile technology for empowering people. I would be very interested in knowing more about all the frontlinesms-projects going on at the moment. The "Member Map" gives some information. But I would be interested in now more. Can anybody tell me if this is possible? Thank you so much.

Merry Christmas all of you. I installed successfully FrontlineSMS and managed to create forms. My mobile phone is 2330 classic and it is supported to use forms. When I send a form to my mobile phone, I receive a message notifying that I received a new form but when I check the form through the frontlinesms form client from my mobile phone, the system says that "they are currently no forms stored on this handset". When I send a request from my phone through the module… Continue

I am a student and am trying to get an sms service up and running for my university's radio. I am trying out a simple registration process, using the keyword "Register". I also want to trigger a file on my local machine when i encounter this keyword, so i wrote a batch file which runs the .jar file on my local machine. I am passing the message content and the sender number as arguments from frontlinesms, but its not picked up by the .jar file. When I tried to pass an argument… Continue

I filled in the Frontline user survey today and it amounted to two things:
- We were successful in installing Ushahidi on our own web host, though the web host blocks port 993, making automatic downloads of email impossible; And
- We still haven't been able to get around the limited list of mobile devices that FontlineSMS works with. Not a single Nokia device on Frontline's list is available in my country. So? So I'm doing everything by hand: all emails are cut and pasted…

I neglected to mention that we concentrate on conservation and management by monitoring the insects. I think I took it so for granted that I didn't think to mention it, but it's not an ordinary line of attack for conservationists.

I'm giving us a year to start using frontline in combination with crowdmap to monitor what we're calling "guide species" in the Netherlands to promote conservation and nature management. I'm convinced there's a difference between existing species databases and the potential of frontline and crowdmap to monitor crucial "guide species." We're asking our users to be slightly more intelligent than usual in the field, but allowing them to respond much more quickly. And we intend to respond (relay… Continue

Thank frontline sms that enable us to contribute more to the development
of poor country. My team and i are planning to use frontline sms to
distribute market price information to remote community which enable them
to sale their crop and product for a reasonable price to middle man. The
people who live in the remote area in Cambodia can read and write only
Khmer language. We are really excited to see the frontline sms support

Didn't want to clutter up the forums with this but wanted to let you all know I'll be presenting a short online talk called "Building a FrontlineSMS Based Domestic Violence Reporting System" on 17, September, 2010 at 16:00 ET online.
The talk won't go in-depth as to HOW to build such a system and requires no technical knowledge at all. We'll discuss approaches, considerations, and the componants needed to build the system. Total… Continue

About a year ago, I developed a system around FrontlineSMS called FamilyFIRST. FamilyFIRST was developed to allow domestic violence agencies to provide better services to victims by allowing them to report incidents silently via a simple SMS message. It also allowed victims in crisis to immediately summon the police or make contact with a crisis intervention worker without the need to actually make a phone call.
Since the implementation of the system, I've gotten a lot of… Continue

Hi all, hello from a new member!
Anyone have recommendations for a tried-and-tested (yet still commercially available!) GSM modem that'll work in both Haiti (deployment site) and the United States (demo & development site)?
Ease of setup is not so much a concern as is robustness. We have reasonably deep technical capacity.
It's for a system where we'll be collecting basic information from the field (kind of like… Continue

I’m with the Clinton Health Access Initiative in Malawi. We’re piloting Frontline SMS at 4 rural health centers to follow up patients when they miss appointments and to notify them when to return for test results.
One of the laptops keeps hanging while using Frontline. The last three times it hung we were saving a contact, sending a sms, and displaying the configuration location. There doesn't seem to be a pattern. I… Continue
