Thanks for your welcome. I'm orienting on your services and it looks like they might suite our purposes both in the fields and in bringing communication content over the supply chain to consumers and our supporters (as a campaigner the latter is my primary focus).
However I'm not in charge to decide so I dropped it in our West-Africa team. They will discuss it. I saw already some nice examples of market information systems like the one on cashew in Côte d'Ivoire.
Hey Florence, This Christian Zigbuo from Africa University Zimbabwe, I am still having problem try to use the program on both my phone and computer, please i would like for you to please assist me if possible.
Good morning, i am very glad to be accepted on FrontlineSmS, it is a blessing to be in such a place and to get to know the good people of our church (UMC) and other denomination, thank for the brilliant idea. I will always keep this in prayer as we help link the world through Technology. Wish you all the best and thanks very for having me here.
I actually thought I was posting the video to my page for myself and perhaps other members to view how I want to us MMS with FrontlineSMS. I didn't know it would post where it did. I am currently orienting myself to forum rules and posting requirements etc. Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it, and you being so prompt. I won't hesitate to learn or ask questions. I deleted the video.
The system was indeed set up in the end. I had quite a few problems trying to get a 3rd party international provider to work in Chile because of the need to set sender ID to a Chilean number. It would be great if more international providers were supported as this would help with the sending of messages not being tied to single mobile phone connected to a PC.
The solution I went for in the end was a phone connected to a PC and the wastepickers have used it so far in just a small trial among members in or close to the national movement itself. They are having what I understand are some logistical issue over funding at the moment so their current SMS credits which were only valid for a few months have expired. I will be encouraging them to continue use with this and trial it further when they have available funds.
It looks great, glad to be of help. and Thanks to everyone at Frontline SMS, I'm speaking with the community leaders now to gauge the effectiveness of the pilot but so far I think it has been very well received by our miners. I'm very positive about the potential here.
About the case study, that sounds like a great idea. I'd be happy to share some of these thoughts with the FLSMS community (I should have some more things written down on paper in a few weeks)
I'm sorry it's taken me a while to respond - I haven't been checking back here regularly. Thank you for your encouraging comments. The testing phase of Minmini News (it has a name now!) is going well, and predictably the challenges and work lie more in the evolution of editorial systems and getting the content right - rather than in the tech. Having said that, I've found that despite being able to receive and send SMS from the generic modem I've been using with my computer in the past, now I don't seem to be receiving SMS anymore. Is this a common problem - that the same modem might sometime receive and sometime not? I have no trouble in sending!
With regards the MHPSS network, I suspect that we're still some ways from mobile interactivity. We've just been redesigning the website - shifting to a Wordpress based platform rather than the custom-one that we'd been working with. Hopefully this will enable smartphone users to use the site more easily - but not unfortunately those with more basic models. I'll definitely get back to you on this once we get nearer this point.
I do have another query - do you know off-hand what geographical mapping systems are compatible with FrontlineSMS (apart from Crowdmap / Ushahidi)? I'm currently looking into ways in which we might better map issues and responses to recent flooding in the Eastern part of Sri Lanka - and I think that integration of SMS feedback from the field could be a useful component of this. It's early days yet, and I don't know if the idea will take, but I'd appreciate your thoughts on what the options might be for mapping tools that can use FrontlineSMS.
FrontlineSMS allows you to text message with large groups of people anywhere there is a mobile signal.
